Kishore Chatterjee

Kishore Chatterjee (1938–2011) was a Kolkata-based artist, writer, and passionate advocate of Western classical music. A self-taught painter known for his vivid oil works and quirky visual language, his art blended myth, music, literature, and Kolkata street life with eccentric charm. Equally celebrated as a music critic and educator, Chatterjee introduced countless audiences to classical music through lectures, writings, and films. His Ballygunge home, filled with art, books, and Beethoven, mirrored his creative, unconventional spirit. A lifelong outsider to the commercial art world, he remains a beloved figure in Kolkata’s cultural history.
