Untitled by Tapan

Tapan leaves this one untitled, which feels right — it isn't trying to depict anything you can name. Deep blues and earth browns move across the paper in layered washes, with lighter ochre breaking through from underneath. Sharp lines cut across the softer passages, so the eye keeps finding new places to rest. There's tension in it, but a calm kind.

It's watercolour on paper, worth saying plainly: the translucency you see is water and pigment doing their work, not an effect added afterward. Tapan builds depth by letting earlier layers show through later ones — a patient way of working that rewards looking closely.
