Know about the artwork

A large untitled pen-and-ink work on paper by Avijit Mukherjee — abstract, and unusually big for the medium at over three feet tall. Mukherjee works intuitively, drawing rhythm and form out of line rather than from any fixed plan.

Born in 1967 and self-taught, he has held solo shows including 'The Grid' at Ganges Art Gallery, Kolkata, and exhibited in India, Norway and Bangladesh.

Avijit Mukherjee

Born in 1967, this self-taught artist has steadily carved a space in the contemporary Indian art scene through a distinct visual voice and an evolving practice. His solo shows include The Grid at Ganges Art Gallery, Kolkata (2010), The Black & White in Pondicherry, and earlier exhibitions at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata.
His collaborative and curated efforts include the two-person exhibition Northern Light, Southern Stories with a Norwegian artist at Gallery K2, Kolkata (2015), and Union of Uniqueness in Dhaka, Bangladesh (2008), among others. He has also participated in several sponsored and group exhibitions at Maya Art Space, Gallery Range, and ICCR Gallery.
