Ramananda Bandyopadhyay
Ramananda Bandyopadhyay (b. 1936, Birbhum, West Bengal) is a prominent Indian painter and a leading figure of the Bengal School of Art. A student of Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan, he trained under Nandalal Bose, whose influence is evident in his lyrical, romantic style. His work is distinguished by a restrained, earthy palette — dominated by reds, browns, and greens — drawn from personal memory and inspired by his mother's fondness for paan. Ramananda's art draws deeply from Indian mythology, religious iconography, and the rural life of Bengal, portraying gods, goddesses, and the quiet dignity of ordinary people. A recipient of multiple national awards, including four Academy Awards and the Abanindranath Puraskar, he has exhibited widely across India and abroad.
